What have we been doing lately? Here is a short summary of the things you may notice:

  • Change Image
    • You can now change the image(s) on flashcards. If an image changed because it is no longer available or you just feel like you need a new image to help learn the word, you can now change it all you want.
    • Changes made for a word will be reflected on associated flashcards
    • The change will be made immediately
    • Where can I use it? The backside of flashcards
    • Change difficulty level
      • Did you add a language thinking you were a “Beginner” or maybe you picked a level that was more advanced than you had wanted?
      • You can your difficulty level as many times as you want now. The content and Daily Goals within the app will reflect your newly selected level each time.
      • Don’t worry: your flashcards and progress for videos and trainers are not lost.
      • Your Daily Goal progress will be lost though – there are different goals for each difficulty level; however, the progress you made on the lessons, videos, or reviews are safe.
      • Where can I use it? In Settings
      • Reset ALL Data
        • Need a fresh start for a language? You’ve got it!
        • Reset ALL Data will make a language brand new, just as if you had never done anything in that language before
        • You can only reset data for one language at a time. If you want to do it for all of them, you will need to switch to each language and reset the data
        • There is no undo button for this action; so, make this decision carefully
        • Where can I use it? In Settings
        • Daily Goal Bonus have been updated!!! These have been reduced so they are a bit more manageable with a day’s extra time.
        • Lots of language updates
        • BUGS HAVE BEEN SMASHED!
          • Flashcards skipping back onto the screen? NOT ANY MORE
          • Blank flashcard at the end? NOT ANY MORE
          • Flashcards left not counting down? NOT ANY MORE
          • Reloading/Flashing of images on iOS? NOT ANY MORE
          • A few smaller ones, too
          • Gender is now shown for nouns during card creation for Base Vocab and Grammar
          • A few other minor things were added as well

That’s all for now. We hope you enjoy the app, and please continue to provide us with your feedback as we continue to improve upon it. read more

Extended App Downtime

We will begin maintenance downtime starting Monday, 8 Apr at 2 am CT. During this time, we will be migrating our servers and preparing everything on our side to release the app in the Google Play and Apple app stores.

We will complete our side of the work by roughly 6 am CT the same day. Thereafter, we will give the green light to both app stores for them to begin their part. We don’t know, nor have any influence over, how long it will take for the app to be officially published to the stores (they tell us that it may take up to 24 hrs).

A Whole New App

A whole new app
A dazzling place I never knew
But when I’m way up here
It’s crystal clear
That now I’m in a whole new app with you

Now I’m in a whole new app with you

Unbelievable sights
Indescribable feeling
Soaring, tumbling, freewheeling
Through an endless diamond sky

  • Better user guidance for videos (explains how to re-watch them)
  • New, clearer “How’s your Spanish? How about your Pronunciation” onboarding screens
  • Big changes to how flashcards are scheduled (new algorithm for which types of flashcards and when they are shown)

What’s Coming Up Next?

Well, let’s take a look into the near future:

V84: Our next build! (currently in testing)

– Better user guidance for videos (explains how to re-watch them)
– New, clearer “How’s your Spanish? How about your Pronunciation” onboarding screens
– FIX FOR THE STUPID SCHEDULING BUG (finally!): Up till now, when you make 10 flashcards for a sentence, your next review session has all 10 of those flashcards in a row, which makes for a painfully stupid review session:

The ___ chased the cat!  [Um…..Dog!]
The dog ___ the cat! [You just showed me that. It’s “chased”]
What’s a “Dog”? […seriously?]
What’s “CHASED”? [Ok stop]
What’s “TO CHASE”? [Throws phone out window]

This gets a little better once you have enough old cards to space the questions out but it’s still annoying even then. This has been a particularly difficult bug to solve but V84 will finally fix this.

V85:

– Final Italian sentences all added
– A bunch of Russian content
– New app icon, new colors/icons/look for app
– Some scattered language corrections, and…..
– Daily Goals!!! The app will tell you what to do each day and stop being confusing. (see attached image #1)

V86:

– New content for Korean and Portuguese
– Gender will be shown during flashcard creation!
– We fix the ‘you have to uninstall and reinstall whenever we update or else your app explodes’
– When you complete one of your daily goals, you get a screen telling you that.
– App store corrections (We’re beginning to get feedback from Apple & Google Play and will have a laundry list of things we need to fix in order to make them happy, so this is a placeholder for assorted items from those lists)

v87+:

– More App store corrections
– Add ‘Change Image’ edit flow: Now, when you choose an image you don’t like or the image you chose originally doesn’t exist on the internet anymore, you’ll be able to fix it.
– 2 week trial: allows newcomers to try the app for 2 weeks before subscribing.

    Read this – WARNING

The newest update to the app is coming 30 January – you will be notified in-app when it is available.

It is recommended to uninstall and reinstall the app to get the best results from the newest updates.

This version resolves a few bugs and sets the stage for future features.

With this upgrade, your language difficulty preferences are now saved.  This means that after you upgrade to the newest version and log in, whichever difficulty level you select for each language will be saved.  You will no longer have to select the difficulty level for the same language again when you upgrade or log out and log back in.  You will not be able to change this difficulty level after selecting it.

The saved difficulty level for each language is a required action for our Daily Goals feature.  We are capturing and saving user difficulty levels for languages because it allows us to tailor a user’s learning experience based on his/her level. This level will drive daily goals, bonus goals, and the content shown to a user.

As always, your feedback on any issues you experience is most helpful.

Reminder: It is recommended to uninstall and reinstall the app to get the best results from the newest updates.

    It’s a Bird! It’s a Plane! No, it’s KOREAN.

Your eyes are not deceiving you: Korean is finally in the app.  You have access to pronunciation and ear trainers, 50 words/150 sentences, and videos to help introduce you to the language.

Alongside Korean is a huge group of updates to other languages.  Many of these updates are thanks to your feedback and recommended changes.  Thank you, and keep them coming!

Below is a quick, but not comprehensive, overview of the updates:

Spanish-LA (es-MX) – changes to sentences and audio + mesero has replaced camarero for waiter + pronunciation trainer changes + videos updated + video ordering corrected

Spanish-EU (es-EU) – changes to sentences and audio + pronunciation trainer changes

Italian (it-IT) – three additional videos + pronunciation trainer changes

Russian (ru-RU) – all videos updated + pronunciation trainer changes

Additional updates have been made to Portuguese-Brazilian (pt-BR), corrections to text in the app, and video updates to French (fr-FR).

A new version of the app will be available for download starting Tuesday, January 15 at 9 am CT.  To prepare for the app release, we will have a maintenance window for updates between 6-9 am CT.  App updates will be pushed during this time and the app may not be responsive.

Once our servers are up and running again, you will be notified that a new version of the app is available for download.  Simply download the new version and enjoy!

Should there be any problems or if Korean doesn’t appear in your list of languages to add after upgrading, it’s best to uninstall and reinstall the app.

  • A transition from ‘creating’ to ‘learning’ across the entire app – you’ll see…you’ll think it’s much better too
  • Improved display for pronunciation trainer videos

    App Update

We’ve started an overhaul of our current processes within Fluent Forever.   We are trying to make things easy for us and YOU.

So, what does this very vague intro mean for you?

Let me tell you briefly about what we are bringing to you soon:

  • New method for submitting ideas: we want to hear your ideas for new features and recommended changes to what we already have within the app.
  • New processes for handling those pesky device-related app issues – allowing our Customer Happiness Team to get you back to using the app faster!
  • More languages and videos coming to the app – for those of you that missed it, we posted our new language schedule last week.
  • Another app release is coming late in Sep with Italian – yep, we were able to get this taste of Italian together faster than we thought.
  • Our tester is unavailable for a bit; so, the following app release in Oct will include lots of new things to experience within the app (another update to come next week on this).
